The new Minor in Quantitative Economics permits quantitatively well-prepared students to do the core of the Economics major, and gives them access to the Certificate Programs in Economics, with fewer required electives than the full Major in Economics.
This minor requires a total of 18 credits in economics.
Specific requirements for the Minor in Quantitative Economics:
- Introduction to Microeconomics (01:220:102) and Introduction to Macroeconomics (01:220:103), both with a grade of C or better.
- Intermediate Microeconomic Analysis (01:220:320) and Intermediate Macroeconomic Analysis (01:220:321), both with a grade of C or better. These courses have the introductory courses and Calculus I (01:640:135 or 151), all with a grade of C or better, as prerequisites.
- Econometrics (01:220:322), with a grade of C or better. This course has the introductory courses, Calculus I, and Statistics (01:960:285 or 01:960:211), all with a grade of C or better, as prerequisites. Mathematical Theory of Probability (01:640:477) or Mathematical Theory of Statistics (01:640:481) may substitute for the Statistics prerequisite.
One upper level (i.e., 400-level) elective in economics from the following list:

- 01:220:420 Computational Methods for Research in Economics (3)
- 01:220:422 Advanced Econometrics for Microeconomic Data (3)
- 01:220:423 Advanced Time Series and Financial Econometrics (3)

- 01:220:480 Behavioral and Experimental Economics (3)
- 01:220:481 Economics of Uncertainty (3)
- 01:220:482 Game Theory and Economics (3)
- 01:220:483 Markets, Games and Information (3)
- 01:220:485 Advanced Microeconomic Theory (3)
All of these 400 level courses have an additional prerequisite of Calculus II (01:640:136 or 152) with a grade of C or better. One grade of D is allowed for this minor.
Students completing this minor may, opt to pursue the Certificate Programs in Economics, including the Certificate in Economic Theory, the Certificate in Computational Economics and Data Analytics, the Certificate in Financial Economics, the Certificate in Global Economics, or the Certificate in Public Policy Economics. Note that accounting courses cannot be used towards either minor. Only two courses outside of the Economics Department in Rutgers-New Brunswick will be accepted towards either minor.
